Who are YOU following? |
|
|
... WHERE are you headed? |
|
|
Life boils down to who (or what) we are following with religous fervour. This indicates our ambition - what's important to us; it also dictates where we're headed. In essence this site/ministry advocates following a Person called the Lord Jesus Christ. This Person is no mere human; He's the Only Begotten Son of the Only True God (phew, that statement may well be a mouthful - please read on so you can hopefully understand it).
The Only True God
Two fundamental facts (and corresponding implications) about the universe that's our home:
(1) its decaying, testifying to the fact it had a beginning (ie. it was created ~ from nothing), it has an end (ie. its not eternal);
(2) it operates on a seamlessly consistent set of "physical laws" throughout (ie. its not a mix of different specialist "creations" all mashed together), testifying that there is a single intelligent and all-powerful Creator who made it all.
The Creator is none other than the Only True God (simply called God), the God of Creation (in contrast to conceptual "gods"). God is the life-giver and the One to whom all creation and everything in it, including human beings (eg. you and I), are accountable. He transcends the physical universe (and hence invisible - not constrained to time and space like us and the rest of creation), for the cause (the Creator) must be greater than the effect (creation ~ the universe): He is utterly supremem, all-powerful, beyond our all comprehension and imagination.
Further, we learn from creation that God is interested in us through the fact that we live in a uniquely habitable environment ~ the earth. Importantly we infer this interest is personal (ie. God is interested in you and me) as reflected by our own personal appreciation of creation: (1) the heavens (ie. all of inner and outer space surrounding this planet) and (2) the earth itself with its fullness.
God's Word for us - the Bible
OK, based on the created universe, we've derived the fact that there is an invisible, all-powerful, Only True, Creator God to whom we're accountable and who's genuienly interested in each one of us. Logically, God, with whom nothing is impossible, must have a sure means of communicating to us thoroughly - that method is the Bible: "God's written Word" for all mankind (irrespective of culture, nationality etc). The Bible tells us about God on a personal and explicit level (without it we'd just have the testimony of creation which is impersonal and implicit). The Bible is comprised of 66 books written over several centuries by about 40 separate people under God's express direction.
Firstly, note that the Bible eloquently states the truth about what we can observe via creation, per the following example (a statement located in the opening part of the Bible book of Romans): (Romans 1:20)
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by
the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

This, and countless other statements in the Bible, authenticate it as a unified, inerrant and trustworthy record of truth unparalled by any other document. Conversely, you'll notice that every other document ever written is only partly true at best: it will be prove inferior to the Bible by: (a) contradicting itself and/or (b) not aligning with the facts we can observe and establish with our God-given senses and intelligence.
What God says (through the Bible) about following
Importantly, the Bible tells us what God expects of us human beings, the crown of His creation. And it tells us how to be accepted with God in readiness to meet Him at His appointed "day" which precedes the eternal conscious destiny that lies ahead of every one of us (another key theme of the Bible).
So where does the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ fit in the big picture? Well, the Bible informs us that God is in fact 3 distinct persons (re. Godhead mentioned above):
(i) God the Father - often simply refered to as God in the Bible,
(ii) the Son of God - this is the One by whom God made the worlds and who came into creation as the Second Man, lived a perfect life, died for us all and rose again after 3 days. He was then received back into God's home beyond creation - Heaven,
(iii) the Holy Spirit - the Person of God who witnesses with our spirit and teaches us (through the Bible) the truth about all things.
Now, God's core will for us is that we come to know His beloved Son as our personal Saviour. Accordingly, the Bible emphatically calls us to:
(i) repent of falling short of God's perfection (we're all sinners) rather than default to an eternity of persihing in separation from God,
(ii) believe on His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, (often refered to simply as "Christ", "Lord" or "Jesus" in the Bible), and
(iii) go on and follow the Lord (ie. Master) above ALL others in our lives:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (John 17:3)
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
